Cary had an AFM race on June 4th and 5th, 2011, so we loaded up the 1990 Honda VTR 250 and headed north for Thunderhill Raceway on Friday so that we could meet up with Tegan and Chuck who were doing a Zoom Zoom trackday. Tegan was going to be trying out her Kawasaki Ninja 650, which she just purchased as a track-only bike from Mickey Fimbers.

We’ve been having a very wet spring, and the weather report for June 3 – 5th was just terrible, with rain forcast for all three days … Tegan and Chuck got lucky, because the forcast storm was late, leaving Tegan with a  pretty nice day to get used to her new bike.

Zoom Zoom was having its anual Woman’s track day, with the “C” group reserved for only female riders. After the track closed for the day they put on a BBQ for all the track day participants.

We camped out in the pits on Friday night, which was fun. We picked the correct shed roof to set up camp under … the one furthest from the gate was not set up over a craded parking lot, so the rain drains under the roof instead of being shed to the sides …

We woke up to steady rain on Saturday morning …

This was the second time this season that rain would force the canceling of races … 250 Production was rained out at the Buttonwillow event, and Saturday,  June 4th was to have a meke-up race. Instead of catching up with the season, all Saturday races were cancelled, and 250 Productiom is now two races behind.

We had a lot of fun waiting for the rain to stop ….

Cary's wonderful tri-tip ... yum!

Cary had found some pre-marinated tri-tip … she got a couple of $7 disposable grills from Wal-Mart, and we used one of them to form a cover and slow cooked the meat, setting up an indirect heat sorce by putting a tray of water directly under the meat. The finished product was fantastic … sooo yummy!

I think we wound up running the bike a total of two minutes … the AFM finally called it a rain out at 12:30 pm, a total rain out for the first time in fifteen years.
